Halfords Scooter Skills

Throughout the holidays we’ve been working on my eldest scooting skills. He has a fabulous Yflicker and adores it and at his school they are allowed to take them in. Soooo huge practising sessions were undertaken over summer so that come next week he can arrive at the gates in style.

Halfords kindly sent us a link to a great page full of scooter tips and tricks and with helmets firmly on we got started.  It’s a perfect guide regardless of whether you’re a beginner or you’re a lot more confident.  The guides are fabulous with pictures and step by steps and after an hour we had perfected the first couple of tricks AND we knew the correct name for them!

Each trick is well explained and also informs you of the best scooter for that trick. Since ours is an odd (but great fun) y shaped scooter we did adapt some of the tricks to suit that. The difficulty level is given with each trick and he adored looking through the page and ideas to see which ones he loved to try out that day.

Being a mum I loved the information at the end about exactly what safety equipment they do need when out and about on it. We have always ensured he wears his helmet but it never occurred to me to ensure he has lights and protective gloves. We are also heading off this week to get knee and shoulder pads too! All the better for when we start practising the harder tips! I love that they do make the time to tell you the law about riding scooter. Did you know its actually illegally to ride scooters on public footpaths and on roads?! Having had my ankles clipped badly before I’m glad to see this!

Why not head to Halfords and check out their range then  get your kids out and about this weekend and help them practise their skills!
