Buying a new fridge...

When we bought our house there was a small narrow room area for the fridge freezer and we spent many days measuring up the gap and trying to find a fridge freezer to place in the gap. Move on four years and the fridge is woefully small. We have since put a further deep freezer in the bat cave we have under the house and we are now looking at getting a new fridge for the kitchen.

Is it of course one of the most important appliances in our kitchen. It of course does everything for us. It keeps my food fresh, chills my drink and is the largest item in the room. We have looked at a fridge buyingguide which is wonderfully useful and have decided agree that space is a largest issue – we used to have a huge American fridge freezer but if we chose one of these for our kitchen we would lose a window or door. So that is our main concern. It does have to fit in the gaps we have but also I would love one which has a larger area for food – our last FF had a fabulous water compartment to give chilled water or ice but it took up so much room of the freezer it unfortunately wasn’t worth the space it took.

I would also like one which looks stylish with our kitchen. I am slowly – oh so slowly – redoing our kitchen. The floor is pretty much down now having had to take it up twice as tiles cracked and then the adhesive melted but next on the list is painting the doors and getting a new work top. I don’t want to change around the placement of the kitchen too much as being a galley kitchen there’s little to try and sort. So obviously the gorgeous 1950’s retro style fridges are top of my list but I do wonder if they will look wrong in a couple more years’ time?

Dream Kitchen! One day......

Obviously its also worth considering where you buy as you need to remove your original fridge freezer and if your local dump is anything like ours they won’t let you pop your old one there!

Next up special features. We’ve ruled out the chilled water but what about auto defrost? What shelves? Special wine holder? And antibacterial coated shelves? There seems to be something new every day!

PS having now spent many days looking at fridges just pay very careful attention to the way the doors open. You don’t want to spend a fortune on your perfect fridge only for the door to open up into a wall……
