Review: The Shepherds Crown
Having just finished a most wonderful book I’m left with
trying to find the words to review it. Would a simple “Go..Buy it…Read it!”
work? It’s rare that a book will have me crying, laughing and enchanted and
just totally captivated but the last offering from Sir Terry Pratchett has just
managed all of that and more.
A great loss to literature and I am bereft, the book has
caused tears of sorry and joy and just WOW what a breath-taking swan song. Like
of all his books, The Shepherds Crown can stand alone as an enthralling
fascinating story but as a last hurrah it is beyond perfect! After all those
who love his novels no doubt have read Lords & Ladies and wondered just
what happened to those terrific, enchanting, glamourous fairy folk. Tiffany Aching, star of Wee Free Men, I shall
wear Midnight and Wintersmith (read them all) takes on the Elves latest foray into
the Discworld and it is as beautifully and bewitchingly told as when they first
graced the pages 25 years ago.
For 30 years Terry Pratchett has given us a twist on reality
and human nature in each novel and this is no exception. Tackling death & humanity
he manages to teach us all that not even the most inhuman among us are without
a soul and perhaps some redeeming features.
A truly thrilling and magnificent send off and as I said at
the start just go and read it!
10 wonderful stars!
