Puffin Summer AudioBook Club
This week we received a lovely package from Puffin. They
invited us to join them in their Summer AudioBook Club. Puffin chose a
selection of audiobooks to make the family laugh out loud and to transport us to
magical places.
We choose to review The Twits By Roald Dahl, The Worse
Witch by Jill Murphy and The Dinosaur that pooped a planet by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter. The
boys were delighted when they arrived as we’ve spent most of the holidays in
car trips up and down to see my family. I was a little unsure if they’d enjoy
them at first and whether they would capture their attention, so we started off
with firm favourite and relatively short one – The Dinosaur that pooped a
planet. Immediately the story started the boys tuned in. They had their
computers to play on but slowly these were put down as they gazed outside
enraptured by that naughty dinosaur. It was sheer delight to see that they
had drifted off to another world and were picturing the story in their head. I
don’t think they would listen to them out of choice at home over the tv but in
the car it was sheer bliss to watch them fall in love with new stories and to
have silence!
From there we
tried The Worst Witch which I adored growing up and I had tried previously to
get my eldest into without much success. It took a little bit longer to get
into the story for them this time but they were hooked very quickly and we had
to remain in the car to listen to the end of the chapter! I was previously
worried that they wouldn’t be bothered with audiobooks when they have other
technology at their fingertips but its been so lovely to see that imagination
still wins. The boys have asked us to buy some new stories to listen to on
holiday and I’ve already got started. We loved the Puffin AudioBooks and they
were great to get us started and introduced new authors to us. A perfect place
to start and a huge thank you for no more “are we nearly there yet”
