A weekend away with Travelodge

Last weekend we were invited to get away for the weekend and visit one of the newly refurbished Travelodge rooms. We choose to head off down to the English Riviera and stayed at their Torquay branch.

We of course googled and researched the area and hotel in advance and I loved that the building was split in two with almost two separate buildings of rooms (allows for noisy partys to be popped on one side!) The Torquay branch also offers a restaurant/café for breakfast or dinner or just to drop in after a morning down at the beach.

We were very happy to discover extra parking round the back of the hotel when we arrived. While there is a charge it is only £3 a day which we though was pretty reasonable (our local parking is £1.40 an hour!) The staff from the moment we arrived were very polite and pleasant and the first thing they did was to check we had a parking space. We were checked in to the top floor with a view down across Torquay.
Our room consisted of their new luxury king size Travelodge dreamer bed, an ensuite and tea & coffee facilities with a tv on the wall. The room was incredibly clean and in fact was very spacious. Even by the time the kids had flung their stuff around the room and collapsed on the floor there was still plenty of room to move around.
We had caught bad traffic on the way down so we immediately headed to the café/bar for dinner and being gluten free I was impressed again by the immediate reaction of “I’ll check with the chef”. Dinner portions were of a good size and there were plenty of options around. The staff were great with the kids who were tired and hungry and bought their dinner out immediately it was ready. And best of it all? It tasted pretty good too! Breakfast again was great. A buffet style of help yourself and being gluten free while they didn’t have any options they did allow me to bring my own bread etc to toast.
Torquay itself was a lovely place to visit and we spent all of Saturday at the beach, rock pooling down a gorgeous little cove (Anstey Bay) and then after a dinner of gluten free fish and chips (I know! Wahoo!)

We headed down to Torquays main beach which is sand and built a lovely sandcastle city. While the hotel wasn’t in the front of the town by the sea it was a minute or two away and we never found parking to be a problem. It was perfectly situated as well to pop out of Torquay and visit the rest of the Riviera.

We had originally thought of Travelodge as a one night budget stay but have to say the trip of two nights was better than many hotels we had stayed in. Their new beds are a dream (I’m fussy about mattresses) and no one woke complaining of a bad night! Perfect, thank you Travelodge we will most definitely be back. If you too also fancy a weekends break away why not pop over and visit Travelodge now.
