Plans for the Garden...
With the
New Year comes the start of the plans for our house. We have a 5 year plan as there’s
so much to do! From ripping up the carpets (we discovered we had parquet
flooring over Christmas) to redoing bathrooms, kitchens, hallways etc. You get
the hint. One of the things which I would love to do is to carry out decking
on. We have it wrapped around most of our house and it provides a gorgeous
balcony until it touches our top lawn.
Our top
lawn is slightly undeveloped at the moment. The area was made larger this month
by the demolishment of a huge laurel hedge which added a considerable 2 metres
to the width of it. This has left us with a large area of land we hadn’t before
at the end of decking and we are wondering just what to do with it. I have
vision of the decking extending and making this an outdoor room. Outside oven
and swing chairs…
The
question is do we carry on the wooden decking boards which
look stunning but are slightly slippery when it gets wet. Although I think we
will have to use the gorgeous wood antislip on the steps, or do we try out the
new composite
decking? Amazingly reproduced out of shopping bags so very eco-friendly!
Which since we are also considering popping up solar panels would be a big step
forward with our footprint.
I do wonder if we can get away with extending the decking down and having a little splash pool? That might of course be better to wait till the boys are older. They of course would like it to extend in to a sort of tree house. Their dad on the other hand has vision of a large outdoor fire pit with the decking going into a little pagoda with lazy chairs and long sultry evenings with cocktails! I did try to point out that this probably isn’t likely in the middle of the Sussex countryside but I am being swayed towards this idea!
