Christmas is a time wrapped around food! After all the big day in most family’s is worked around the traditional turkey roast! But just imagine what it must be like if you had to turn down the mince pies, the Christmas cake and even the biscuits! Now just imagine a book which could turn that all upside down and provide you with some scrummy treats not just over the Christmas period but for the rest of the year too? Well that’s exactly what Sam has done in her new book Gluten Free Baking at Christmas.
After having a miserable Christmas when she was first
diagnosed she decided that wouldn’t happen the following year and set about
tweaking her grandma’s recipes until they were gluten free. Since her grandma
was Danish there is a definite Scandinavian essence to them but of course she
also features the traditional English recipes too.
Having been wary in the past of people who claim they’ve
tweaked recipes (exchanging the flour is not the only answer) I had a lot of
trust in Sam since I’ve followed her blog for a while and used some of the
recipes she’s featured there which have come out perfect each time. I adore her
new book; to have all these recipes in one place is fantastic!
We haven’t tried out every recipe yet, although by Christmas
I expect we will, but the ones we have tried out have been rather fabulous.
Obviously tried and tested they are easy to follow, easy to make (no dashing to
50 shops for the ingredients) and they taste great too! By far my favourites
are a new one on me and called Sarahs Flying Saucers. You can make a huge batch
up in under half an hour and they freeze. These literally melted on the tongue.
Pure heaven for a snack and treat! Also
perfect for my grandma who’s on a horrendously strict diet. There really is a recipe for everyone in this
book and if you aren’t gluten free I wouldn’t be put off either. My husband
isn’t and quite happily woofed down the treats we made without realising they
had no gluten in!
Pop over here to buy online the book or as an ebook and also
to get a sneaky peek at some of these recipes!
