Cancer Care Parcels

Did you know that every two minutes someone in the UK is being diagnosed with Cancer? It’s a huge number and while it might not directly be you then it is likely to be a loved one or a friend. Both my mother and grandma were diagnosed with breast cancer recently and several of our friends have also had cancer diagnosis. We are incredibly lucky though that each one has come out the other side and been given the all clear. But what can you do to help? I know I said the wrong thing on many occasions in an attempt to be helpful or kind and it’s difficult to know what to send. Flowers? Can be tough if they have allergies or are going through chemo. So I was over the moon to discover that there is a fabulous company called Cancer Care Parcels.

Cancer Care Parcels is a company that was founded by Dr Shara Cohen who herself was diagnosed with breast cancer. That first-hand experience is in every box and item and allows you to give a gift of care to show someone you are thinking of them. So many patients I’ve spoken to say their friends and families just didn’t know what to say or to bring and this really help ease that pressure. You can also sign up to an email which advises you of things you can offer to do to help, what not to say and what to say!

We were sent the Breast Cancer Gift Package for women. As I said they cover children, teens, men and women and also end of life boxes. And both my mum and grandma were delighted to see the contents, both agreeing that a lot of thought had gone into making it a luxury, appreciative gift. The box was wonderful and contained:

·      Unscented Lip Balm – Helps lock in moisture to stop dry lips and mouths.

·      Peppermint Herbal Tea Bags – Again superb for nausea but also they help with stress relief and relaxation. Completely caffeine free.

·      Ear Phones – Spare earphones for tuning in to your favourite radio station or audio book and blocking out the world.

·      Ribbed Foot Roller – I think this was the favourite. A foot massage well away from the point of the cancer is a great way to take a focus on something relaxing for a minute or two.

·      Adult Colouring Book & Pencils – A great way to help switch your mind off when a book just doesn’t do it. Colouring books are already used on cancer wards and a great distraction.

·      Cool Food Bag – Quite often cancer patients need to eat little and often and don’t want to be getting up and down to get a snack. This is a great way to keep your food fresh and by your side.

·      Water Bottle – This is an eco friendly BPA free bottle which also has times on the side to remind you to drink at different times. Dehydration is way too easy!

·      Super Soft Blanket – gorgeously soft to create a comforting feel for those hospital visits and stays and is also great for travel and being at home.

·      Anti Nausea Wrist bands – clinically proven to help control nausea – one of the most common side effects of cancer treatments.

·      Sleep Mask  - anyone who has had a stay in hospital, even temporary know that these are invaluable when you are tired and the fluorescent lights are glaring down on you.

·      Neck Cushion – to help add a little comfort during treatment or journeys and also when tired in the chair at home.

As you can see every gift is chosen with the aim to care and relax and destress. There is also a note inside where your loved one can get extra support and help. And as a sender you have access to the cancer resources on the site and support not only for those affected by cancer but also for their family, friends and carers.

This box cost £89.00 and is sent out same day if ordered before 2pm. Prices start at just £49 and cancer care parcels provide a wide range of gifts and boxes. You can also get help choosing if you aren’t too sure of the treatment they are under going. Its perfect for when you want to help but just know how.

This box was provided to us by Cancer Care Parcel for this review. As always, all my reviews are 100% honest and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
