Fun Crafting for Kids #CraftingWithViking

Recently we were invited by Viking Direct to take part in a morning of crafts and activities. They sent us a fabulous hamper of things that you have spare around the home – paper, toilet rolls, paper straws etc to make these fabulous crafts from.  The morning was hosted by the fabulous Jane from https://www.teaandcrafting.co.uk/ who has the most fabulous ideas for crafting on her site.  With the weather this week being sent to rain now is the perfect time to share these crafts with you!

Viking Direct is an online stationery shops but oh my goodness they sell so much more than just office supplies! Along side the great craft supplies liked coloured paper and the ever-needed sharpies they also sell toilet rolls!! Wahoo and hand sanitiser – just want we need at the moment. With their great crafty supplies, we made toilet roll dragons, honeycomb bubble wrap chocolate and walking feet!

Honeycomb Chocolate

Needed: Chocolate, Bubblewrap, sprinkles.

1 – Clean your area for working & make sure hands are washed!

2 – Break up the chocolate into little pieces and put in a microwaveable bowl.  Aero is great as it crumbles, and chocolate drops are already the perfect size. But to help melting make sure the chocolate is nice and small. We crumbled about 4 aero bars – we might have had a sneak chunk each so 3 and a half bars!

3 – Melt in the microwave. Start with 30 seconds and then go up in 20 seconds blasts. Do make sure you stir after each blast – it helps the chocolate melt faster and prevents burnt bits!

4 – While the chocolate is melting pop sections of bubble wrap on to a plate.

5 – Pour your melted chocolate on to the bubble wrap and spread it evenly with a spatula.

6 – Pop it in the fridge for about 30 mins.

7 – Clean up your work surface – a little chocolate gets messy very quickly!!

8 – After the chocolate has set gentle peel off the bubble wrap and you should have a gorgeous honeycomb pattern. Decorate the chocolate with sprinkles and enjoy!!

Fire Breathing Dragons,

Toilet Roll, Coloured Card, Pen, Tissue paper

1 – Take a sheet of coloured paper. Measure your end of toilet roll tube against the paper and cut a strip along the long side of the paper – Leave about a cm extra on the height!

2 – Spread glue all over your toilet roll and gentle roll the paper over the roll. Tuck the ends under – extra glue here or trim them off at the end of your roll.

3 – On the rest of your paper draw some eyes and a nose to add to your dragon body. Make sure you add a little tag at the bottom. Glue the tags to the body and the eyes and nose which should allow them to stick up!

4 – Cut tissue paper into strips, about 10cm long, any longer and the weight will be to heavy. Glue these strips on the inside of the dragon at the bottom. Its fine for the tissue paper to overlap.

5 – Hold the dragon at an angle in front and you blow into the toilet roll tube. The tissue paper will come to life!

Walking Feet

Paper, Straws, Ear Buds or kebab stick, Sellotape

1 – Cut a straw in half and tape it to the inside of your tape roll on opposite sides.  Make sure the straws stick out of the tape on opposite sides. You only need about a cm or two sticking out so trim off what’s not needed.

2 – Remove the cotton wool from the cotton buds or use a kebab stick.

3 – Take a sheet of paper and fold it in half and draw around your children’s feet. Carefully cut these out and you should have a left foot and a right foot.

4 – Tape the cotton bud to the inside of each foot underneath.

5 – Slot the cotton buds into the straws on the tape and roll your tape! Your feet should now run across the floor.
