Schleich Giant Volcano set with T-Rex Review

In our house we are huge fans of the wonderful toys from Schleich. As I’ve mentioned in the past their toys are pretty much indestructible and hugely loved. They are to me the perfect toys for sparking the imagination of all age groups and I love watching children just get lost in to their play world as soon as they pick up Schleich toy.

With this in mind when the chance came to review their Giant Volcano with T-Rex I had to say yes! The scene is the giant volcano is erupting causing a channel of hot lava to cascade through the valley! Explore the lava flow or find a fossil that has been dislodge by the side of the volcano and broken in to pieces. Be careful though that your dinosaur doesn’t get caught when the trembles cause the fossils to tumble down.

The boys are at the stage where big boxes create huge excitement so of course a HUGE box full of Schleich dinosaurs and volcanos caused great excitement. The boys were determined to build the volcano themselves which they managed fairly well although we had to step it at the end as it can fall apart if it is not built on a hard surface. It did take a fair few hours I have to say…

Explore all over the side of the volcano from the pool with prehistoric fish underneath the removal surface. As you turn the volcano you also notice that there is a stalagmite cave which with a flick of the fingers you can drop the stalagmites trapping T-Rex and the triceratops. Of course if you cant catch them here and they escape you can easily catch them in a tree root when they press on the wrong root! There is so much to take in here and with so many details I think it would be a very long time for a child to get bored. We have hidden all kinds of secret animals under the water to hide and the poor T-Rex has been caught by the fossils tumbling down and his feet being trapped by the roots!

That negative aside the boys have had so much fun playing with the volcano. The dinosaurs are nice and large and perfect Schleich hand painted dinosaurs. As are the details on the volcano and the lava flow. Also included is a skeleton dinosaur and small figures such as the dinosaur fish and a frog who nestles in the plants on the side of the mountain. You can change the look by moving around the plants to various holes around the volcano. They absolutely adored the two full size characters. Both the T-Rex & the Stegosaurus really add so much to the playset. It would have been amazing without these two figures but they add an extra play aspect and are a lovely bonus to the set.

The set is large and wow does it get your children playing. Hours literally hours have been spent playing with the toy and while you might originally be surprised at the price (RRP £89.99) it pays back in play time I think and also with the quality of toys and the model.
