Evenings at the sea...

We have just spent a heavenly evening down by our local beach having a picnic. We are lucky enough to live about 30 mins from the sea and the south coasts beautiful beaches. Normally you can find us there every weekend but in the summer the shores are so packed that we tend to sneak down early evening when everyone’s left and play on the long stretches of sand alone and settle down to a picnic while we watch the sun slowly set across the sea.

Lately our picnics have been a lot more stylish thanks to House of Fraser who sent us their gorgeous riviera picnic basket to review (£30 in their sale, down from £100, bargain) Its absolutely perfect for us as being gluten free we have to take our food everywhere with us and have picnics nearly every weekend. A full dinnerware set this has the perfect set for four people! We slipped in the normal picnic items and also I had baked my gorgeous gluten free chocolate gateau which was made by House of Fraser baking range!

We love that by the time the evening comes the beach is deserted. We had a great game of French cricket and even found a fair few crabs hiding under the pebbles and rocks uncovered by the low tide. I can highly recommend heading down just before rush hour as this seems the perfect time for people to start abandoning the beach.  If you can’t take a picnic basket then why not grab a disposable BBQ and a blanket and a book or two. It’s the school holidays so the odd late evening won’t cause trouble and as you can see from the pictures. It’s most definitely worth it!

So what do you do during the summer holidays? Do any of you brave your local attractions once the hordes have left?
