February Family Walks

We’ve finally got miserable January out of the way which means were once step closer to getting some spring sunshine. Until then though, we need to keep busy to make the quickest month of the year fly by. February is the perfect month for going on some lovely long family walks. Although there’s still a chill in the air there’s something refreshing about feeling the lovely winter wind whip our cheeks and polish off the cobwebs.

Wrap up warm

Despite the few glimmers of sunshine we get in February, it’s still important to wrap up warm. This is extra important for the kids, who will want to turn around and head home at any given opportunity if they’re feeling a little chilly. These amazing children’s coats from Regatta are perfect for all weathers and amazing quality so they’ll get worn time and time again. Always layer up with a jumper underneath and protect little hands and feet with thick socks and knitted mittens. Also, don’t forget to pop on a hat yourself and the kids before you leave the house.

Educational walks

Walks through the woods in February are a great way to teach children about the changing seasons. Whilst the trees are bare and the ground is muddy and hard, tell them about how the spring brings out all the wildlife and when the green grass and flowers grows. You could even try the walk into an educational activity when you get home by asking them to paint a picture of the trees or by making a collage of the twigs from on your walk. Take a camera and make sure you get photos of all those great shots.

Be Adventurous

February mornings can be really beautiful if you drop on a good one. So set your alarm early and plan a big day out. Maybe try a route you’ve never been on before or head out to a big reservoir or dam where you can walk the whole way around, meaning that you have a long walk ahead. When you’re walking with kids it’s important to be prepared for all eventualities so make sure you have a bottle of water handy and a few emergency snacks at the ready for in case they get hungry.
February walks can be so much fun for all the family and a great way to get out in the fresh air after hibernating all winter, so why not get your kids wrapped up and enjoy the winter sunshine.
