A printer with no need to refill?

Every day our printer is in usage. Whether its printing out letters or worksheets for scouts, homework for the kids, work for both of us or just general printing you can guarantee that it’s going to get used. We have been using an old printer which requires a lot of fiddling if we want to print in colour as it seems after 10 pictures one of the colours will run low so it demands a whole new cartridge *sigh*

However! All that has changed, just imagine for a moment a printer which doesn’t actually need cartridges? Epson have created a whole new printer that doesn’t require cartridges and the ink included lasts for 2 years. Awesome hey? Well Epson new  EcoTank ET-2500 can over two years print 6,500 colours pages and 4000 black and white. That’s roughly 9 pages a day of coloured and 6 of black and white!

The print arrives with 4 bottles of ink which are then poured into the ink tanks. Plug in your printer and then turn it on and connect to the WiFi. Once this has done just download your Epson Remote Print/Iprint or Epson Email Print. Being wireless you can print from your phone or your laptop without having to connect up. We did struggle a bit pouring the ink. If I were you make sure you have some old newspaper underneath!

The Epson IPrint app allows to you copy the URL of the page you want to print and paste it into the box in the app. The quality of the print is superb and its nice and quick to which is great for me as I normally forget to print something till the last minute.

The Epson Email Print allows your printer to have an email address where you send your pages to print for anywhere in the world. The only issue we had with this is that we couldn’t say what pages of the attachment we wanted to print – it will print the whole document, starting with a blank page. Odd but there you go.You can of course download your printer’s drivers so you can print direct from work or excel without having to faff too.

The ET-2500 is the base model so doesn’t have Airprint however the next model up does and will allow you to print from your apple phones.

Having downloaded Epson Scan at the start with the others it’s incredibly easy to use the scan function. Pop the page in and hit scan and seconds later it appears in your download folder! Simple!

The best feature of the printer though of course is the ink. Without the need to replace the cartridges there is far less wastage and you can save an awful lot of money in the long term. Having looked up on amazon the set of ink bottles for when you need to replace is only £21. Cheaper than some of the cartridges out there.
