Wool Bedding.

Recently we were invited to review and try out wool bedding. Hmm very interesting! When we got married I had to change the duvet from duck and feather to cotton as my husband gets so hot and night it can be uncomfortable to be in the same room as! Plus it brought out allergies and meant he constantly had a blocked nose (snoring!) not great for the first year of marriage! So I wondered what the wool bedding would be like. Would it induce allergies or be to hot?

The Wool Room claim their products will give up to 25% more regenerative sleep, helps to reduce allergies and helps to regulate your temperature. They use 100% traceable British wool which is sustainable, renewable, biodegradable and naturally flame retardant. The Wool Room say that wool naturally regulates your temperature by absorbing moisture and humidity and night then desorbing during the day!  Apparently wool can absorb 30% of its own weight! Surprisingly as it absorbs and desorbs the moisture it creates a dry environment and so cutting out the food source for dust mites they can no longer survive! Check out their 5 reasons to buy wool bedding.
The wool room sent us a wool mattress protector, duvet and pillows thereby ensuring we had a “wool sleep system”. Apparently made up with the layer of wool below and on and top this acts as our own personal sleeping climate zone!

Thats a good 12" of side paneling there!

The Protector

We stripped the bed and started making up our zone. The first thing I noticed was the mattress protector. We have a very thick duvet and struggle with fitted sheets to find side deep enough. The protector had incredibly deep sides which also allowed us to tuck the extra under the mattress making sure the protector is unlikely to move regardless of wiggling and little ones climbing in and out of bed! As with all their products the wool is covered but high quality cotton quilted coverings (all products are machine washable)

The Duvet

We received the deluxe all seasons duvet which is two different weight duvets supplied poppered together which can be unclipped and used separately to suit the season! Heaven especially as we take our duvet camping with and the summer duvet can be too light! Putting the duvet in the cover I noticed it wasn’t as thick as our cotton one and wondered if this would mean it wouldn’t be so warm. A quick flick though and it plumps up and is incredibly snuggly (I cant think of a better word!) I wondered if it would feel heavy or the layers of duvet would slip around but have to say I haven’t noticed this at all! It’s no heavier and  I have completely forgotten its two different layers.

The Pillows

The Wool!
These are something else! If you don’t but a duvet or protector I do urge you to splash out on these. I am incredibly fussy with pillows and a bad pillow can result in a bad neck and a grumpy me the following day. I took one look at these pillow and though ah well I’ll try them for one night but keep my foam one by the side in case I have to swap. They are AMAZING! The wool inside the pillow is held in by a pressure zip so no nasty bits to jab into you at night and you can add or take out wool depending on how firm a pillow you want. Every item comes in a gorgeous 100% cotton bag which is perfect for storage and also perfect for storing in your excess wool! I did have to take a little wool out of mine but oh goodness I am not giving that pillow up. You can move the wool around so you have extra support under the neck or just a general plumpness throughout. My husband (he of the 3 pillows) plumped his up and agreed to try it on its own. We both wondered how long it would stay plump. As yet a week later he hasn’t had to plump it up again or add another pillow! We do turn it over to get a cooler part of the cover but it’s incredible. This light fluffy wool holds it shape and our heavy heads and doesn’t collapse!

The Result

The youngest has been ill since we had these and it has meant getting up throughout the night. I am nowhere near as tired as I would have been in the past. I’m contributing this to the products because normally a broken night leaves me as a zombie and I actually feel refreshed in the morning. My husband’s snoring has reduced dramatically and neither of us have been woken through being too hot and someone throwing the duvet off. There’s no sweating and goodness me you can notice the difference when you lie down to go to sleep. It’s incredibly comfortable and I am a complete convert! I’ll be buying more now for the kids and also converting friends and family. A definite 5 stars!
