Get Winter Ready

So the clocks go back an hour on Saturday night, an extra hour in bed I hear you cry! Have you got youngster’s? They wake up regardless! However it also heralds the start of winter (-6 sat night!)  So why not spend the weekend making sure you and the house are prepared. This is our checklist. Its only a small one but if you google there are tons around which are far more in depth such as Martha Stewarts here.

*        If you follow me on twitter you’ll know this is close to my heart but GET YOUR BOILER SERVICED! Seriously! We’re just had 3 weeks with no hot water or heating. Better to get it sorted now than when its minus degrees outside and the pipes are frozen!
*        While we’re talking about boilers get your carbon monoxide card/alarm sorted and checked. And your
*        batteries replaced in smoke alarm.
*        Make sure your gutters are free of autumn leaves and pop some mesh across the top if needs be.
*        Put away furniture and cover delicate plants. Rake up the leaves (slippery) and pick the last of your veg and pop in the freezer.
*        Turn your mattress, wash blankets etc
*        Get your winter coats out, make sure you know where gloves, hats and scarves are.
Be prepared! Well you never know!

*        Winterize your car! Top up your anti-freeze, screen wash, pop in your scrapers, blanket, shovel, salt, water and snacks (you never know! Be prepared!) And jump cables!
*        Know where your mains and stopcock are just in case of leaks and make sure you have plumber numbers and insurance up-to-date
*        Hunt out your winter recipe books and start stocking up on long life goodies. Here’s a great one with pumpkins around next week! Also stock up on candles and matches.
*        Stock up on lemsip and other cold meds if you haven’t got a cold yet!
