Heros & Heroines - Ravensburger Puzzle

We love jigsaws puzzles. As far back as I can remember there have always been jigsaw puzzles around my house and my grandparents. Winter afternoons were spent with a new puzzle laid out on the dining table with everyone bending over and adding an extra piece here and there as they passed by. My grandma’s house was the same. There is always one on the side half-finished or almost completed or boxes were the sides are being sorted from the centre.

And of course the makers behind the most popular jigsaw puzzles around (just take a look at their 3d versions) have to be Ravensburger. We were over the moon to receive one of their new designs Heros & Heroines to review and share with you.

A gorgeously and heavily illustrated design it is based on the some of the greatest love stories around. The picture is a bookcase come alive with over 3000 years of sweethearts from myths, legends, fiction and facts. It starts off with Aphrodite & Andonis next door to Romeo & Juliet. Further along the same shelf are the wonderful Anne & Gilbert in front of Green Gables with Antony & Cleopatra in the top corner. The middle shelf is started off with a gorgeous scene of Gatsby & Daisy smoothly going into Guinevere & Lancelot through to Robin in the forest with Marion and Marguerite & Armand. The bottom shelf is seen to be taken up with Christine & Erik, Cathy to her Heathcliff and of course finishing up with my two favourites Elizabeth & Darcy and Rhett & Scarlett. Who else could you have put on here? What a beautiful book shelf. I love the illustration as I can imagine if my books came alive I would have a fair few looking like this!

It is a 1000 pieces of Ravensburger soft click technology and is 70cm by 50cm when completed. The design created by Aimee Stewart is printed on the pieces and they seamlessly fit into place. No missing parts of the picture because it disappears down the side of the piece! The soft click technology holds up as we listened and heard a little click when the piece went in correctly against another.

We loved putting it together although we found the finished jigsaw a lot more detailed then you could at first see on the box which is lovely but slightly frustrating when you’re struggling to complete the puzzle with tired eyes (who can leave a puzzle half done?!)

Every one joined in towards the end although the suggested age is 12yrs+ which seems about right. The colours are darker and it takes a keener eye than most children to match it up to the relevant spot. All in all this has provided great fun and has given us many hours of pleasure building it!

Disclosure: We were selected to be part of the Ravensburger Puzzle Club so we received the puzzle free to review.
