Spring Cleaning Tips
With two bank holidays this month it seems time to tackle
the cupboards over flowing, the rugs that have taken half our garden of mud
this winter and the bookcases which have been well used and do a deep spring
clean.
While many people don’t set aside a weekend for a household
spruce I love the way it helps the house shake of winter and be ready for
summer and hot lazy days. Clean sparkling windows allow the sun to burst
through, washed curtains lift a room and who doesn’t love fresh sheets and a
clean bath?
So what are my top spring cleaning tips? Well for a start
only tackle one room at time otherwise you will be overwhelmed by the task in
hand and give up before you’ve even started.
Windows
It’s amazing just how much brighter a room feels after the
windows have been clean. Do choose a cloudy but dry to do it. While newspaper
can be great I find that a rubber squeegee is just as good and twice as quick.
Rooms
Tackle one room at a time. For bathroom
spring cleaning tips check out VictoriaPlum.com's blog. In fact why not set a
timer for ten minutes and see how much you can do in that time? Work top down.
Start off by wiping light bulbs, dust the coving and then on blinds or washing curtains.
Last off a quick hoover and you’d be amazed the difference in your rooms.
Tackle the problem areas next. Stainless steel – a quick
wipe and buff with baby oil is a cheap and highly effective way to remove
fingerprints and have your appliances gleaming. Rinse your dishwasher through
with a specialist cleaner without any plates in. Really this should be done
once a month as so much dirt and grease builds up in the pipes. Ovens. I hate cleaning mine. The doors have a
tri-layer and is nigh on impossible to get the grease out of it. But clear out
any loose bits of food first and nothing work best than a paste of baking soda
and vinegar!
Bedrooms
Take out all your heavy winter clothes. Spring & summer
are here and while you want layers the thick fleeces and Fair Isle sweaters will
not be seen till autumn. Pop them in vacuum bags with a lavender sachet to keep
away moths and watch the room in your wardrobes expand. Wash your pillows and
duvets and either change to your summer bedding or ensure they are dry before
placing on the beds. A great way to get rid of dust and bed bugs! Yuk! Hoover
your mattress while you’re at it and give it a turn.
Living rooms
Declutter, sort through the book shelves and give them a
wipe down with a damp cloth. Why not hire a carpet cleaner and remove the
winters mud and dirt. Why not update to a summers look with fresh flowers and
new cushions!
