Our day out at Drusillas Park - Sussex

This past weekend we decided to head out for a family day out in Sussex. We headed to the fabulous Drusillas Park. We didn’t pay much attention to the weather as we’ve visited in both beautiful sunshine and torrential rain and thunderstorms before. Neither affected the fun we had so we shoved the waterproofs in the boot and headed off.

One thing I and the boys particularly love about Drusillas is how hands on it is and that includes the learning about the animals. As soon as you arrive you’re whisked into the “Zoolympics” which you follow around the park. Once through the entry the first thing you can do is see which animal you’re as heavy as!

The Zoo

Throughout the whole Zoo you have a free passport which needs stamping as you go past different check points and different animals and you have a free Zoolympics book to fill out too. Find out whether you can pull the same weight as a cheeter or whether you can hang on as long as monkey! Just how long can you stand on one foot? A flamingo manages all night!

The zoo is full of hands on learning from cow milking – not a real cow! To fun facts finders, boxes and tray full of interesting bits and pieces and little fun facts scattered around. The challenges were so much fun to the boys and they couldn’t wait to get on to the next challenge. The boys loved seeing if they could run faster than various animals, shout the loudest and seeing if they could climb the highest too!

Lory Landing

A lovely enclosure that you can bypass if you don’t like birds but which is superb otherwise and well worth a visit. For £1 you can buy a pot of nectar to feed the rainbow lorikeets. As you can see from the photos they rather love nectar! My husband adored this! The boys were a little unsure but demanded that we had a go none the less!

The Play Areas

Drusillas have a HUGE play area (not including the onside soft play) with different areas – some for the under 6s and the rest is probably aimed up to teens. They even have a lovely wet play area (new for 2016) which some of the kids were having a fabulous time braving the weather and the water!

Extras

Not just the zoo and play areas there are also a series of extras bits and pieces. Thomas the tank engine and his friends go for a little trip around the park and the youngest adored this! We waved at all of Thomas’s friends on the way round. There is also a Hello Kitty secret garden. The Eden Eyes maze which the boys adore and love running around it.

Food

There are quite a few places to grab food throughout Drusillas offering a fairly wide range of food. While they cater for gluten free I would recommend taking your own – typical jacket potatoes etc. There are couple of places to have your own picnics in the park too.

Prices

We were given complimentary tickets on this visit but we’ve visited in the past and will do in the future and it costs us about £64 for a family of four at peak season. Book online for savings – its cheaper than at the gate. You can also use your tesco clubcard points!

Overall

We had a fabulous visit regardless of weather. We will be back soon!
