Getting season ready with White Horse Energy

With the dramatic chance in the weather this week also comes a dramatic change in our style of living. We love the outdoor life even in winter but still like to be warm.  So away goes the water toys and out comes the fire pit. And quite frankly nothing beats the smell of heat that logs give off.

Our wood burning stove is also set in place at the hub of the home and often we’ll use it as our main power source. While you might still be clinging to an Indian summer now is the perfect time to get your wood ordered before it starts getting busy.

We have been lucky enough to have been sent a superb range of firewood from White Horse Energy. Along with the gorgeous selection of Kiln Dried Firewood – this makes the most incredible smell and heat – we were also sent a selection from their range. White Horse Energy have the Ready to Burn certificate which is given to suppliers who can show to Woodsure that their wood has a moisture content of lower than 20%. The lower the moisture percentage the hotter it will burn and the less pollutants it will give off -very important in our house. The scheme also has the backing of Defra, HETAS & the stove industry alliance.

We decided to try out their selection and started off with their EcoBlaze Pini-Kay briquettes. These are made from recycled wood so a carbon neutral option! Wahoo. We used these first out on the outdoor fire but quickly saved the rest for the log burner as they give off much less ash and make a fabulous combination with kiln dried firewood. Another great carbon neutral option is the EcoBlaze Ruf Fire blocks. A little like sawdust to look at but these give a great clean burn and the heat is tremendous with a moisture content of below 12%. When these were put in the stove the heat was incredible and it heated our house quick and with no smokiness!

Of course, the boys immediately wanted to head outside so as soon as the temperature dropped this week that’s exactly what we did. I cannot express how much I loved the ecoblaze natural firelights! Kim at Life can be Toff has them in a glass vase and I have put one on order as they just look so fabulous. They also work incredibly well too! We were outside with the boys for hours until it was dark and the wood lasted for ages. It gave off a great warmth and we cant wait for next week to do it all over again. We often cook things – apple cakes, soup, jacket potatoes but of course you cant go wrong with S’mores!

Delivery was quick and effortless, and we’ll definitely be stocking up this winter with them. If you’d also like to try out some of their great options head over to White Horse Energy and use code: bakesbooksandmyboys for a discount on your first order!
