Morphy Richards Atomist Iron

Doesnt it look beautiful?

In our house we have a lot of ironing. From materials to sew with, shirts for the office or kids clothes there is always something in need of a quick run over. Simple enough though you’d think? Well we shove our clothes in the tumble to dry before iron which while leaving the clothes soft and dry also leaves them with hideous creases!
Morphy Richards have released an incredible new iron.  The Morphy Richards Redefine Atomist Iron. It has been designed to use 80% less water and a whopping 75% less energy than a traditional steam iron. It also never needs descaling, can be refilled straight from the tap and can tackle 2 hours of ironing before you need to refill.
Morphy Richards & Come Round (they of the superb parties) kindly sent me ahead of their weekend of parties (keep an eye out on twitter #atomist) to review and see what I thought of this.

Can you see the mist? Wonderful target control!
The first thing that intrigued me was the plate. It was glass and see through and nowhere for the steam to come out of….Made of Thermoglass it is designed to glide over fabric with no holes to get clogged or to catch on your clothes. They also make a pretty big claim that creases will literally disappear before your eyes.  They also claim that it will apply the right amount of pressure, heat and moisture for easier ironing without steam.
First impressions after the wonderfully see through plate were that it was incredibly easy to fill and get the temperature up to the right heat. Straight into ironing incredibly creased trousers and I started to struggle…I couldn’t seem to apply enough pressure and I the creases weren’t disappearing. Initial thoughts were that I weren’t impressed. I persevered and put it away to try another day. Second trial and I got my head around the spray and had obviously got the right pressure; the iron is incredibly light and easy to forget you don’t have the weight there to press down already.  The creases finally began to disappear. With the right pressure and the use of the spray it was amazing to see the difference in the iron. It was easy to glide along the fabric and I started to whiz through the ironing pretty quick. Personally I had to have the iron hotter than it suggested. I had it on linens when I was ironing my cotton.

Wahoo see through!

I love the fact that it doesn’t drip stained water on my lovely white shirts. I love that its light weight and recently having broken my wrist I managed to get through more ironing than I have in a long time. I love the clear glass underneath to see the fabric as I ironed. I love the water tank! I can shove a good film on and no need to stop and pause every ten minutes to refill the water tank. I also loved the cord storage. I do love how stylish it looks too! So do stick with it folks. It will pay off!

Finished product!

I didn’t like so much that it took a while to get used to it. Its superb once you do but I’d be slightly miffed I didn’t have a perfect iron the first go. I also didn’t like that it was slightly larger than my old iron so if you have a limited storage space do check the complete size.
