Review: EcoBorders

Earlier this year about midwinter we are were asked if we would like to review a new product for the garden. EcoBorder – A low cost RRP £9.98 per length – easy to install, environmentally friendly solution to border edging. Designed to keep the gardens tidy and to stop grass invading your beds. Sturdy and flexible its designed to go round curves and different designs with a mower designed edge to eliminate the need for a strimmer.

It was incredible easy to install and our garden bed we placed it round went up and down and is very curvy. It took us to install 6 pieces at 4ft in length each less than 5 minutes. No digging is required. It’s a simple case of place in desired location and peg down with the included pegs. It comes in different colours – brown, red or black. With regards to the bending it’s designed to turn 70 degrees from end to end. EcoBorder reckon you can install about 50 feet in an hour.

EcoBorder is made from scrap tyres (and industrial glue) which are virtually indestructible and wont rot down over winter so you don’t need to worry about maintaining or replacing the edging for the new few decades. A great way to reduce landfill and as we discovered it’s easy enough to take up and replace if you changed your mind about your borders later on.

I would prefer it to not to have come covered in plastic I have to say as they are such great eco products it would have been nice if it arrived in recyclable coverings. However it was incredibly quick to lay, connect and peg in place and you can get right up against the edge for mowing (as long as you remember to place it the correct way round). The only problem that we have had is 1, we need to order more! 2, the grass has crept underneath in about 3 places. We blame this more on our garden then the product as our garden is far from flat and in the space of about 10” the height drops by 2” to go back up again and its here that the grass has crept under. We’re planning on popping some earth though to fill in these gaps. As to how indestructible they are we accidentally mowed the edge and pulled it up. Both mower and edging though are perfectly fine!

All in all a rather fabulous product to help you easily maintain your garden from roving grass!
