Biscuiteers DIY Gingerbread House

10 years ago when I was suffering a bad time being pregnant and dealing with an ill baby and house sales a very lovely friend sent me a parcel to cheer me up and inside were a series of biscuits stunningly decorated from the very gorgeous Biscuiteers. Not only were just beautiful to look at each mouthful was absolutely divine. Ever since we have been huge fans of Biscuiteers and love their decorations and biscuits. So, when they asked if we would like to brave icing our own gingerbread house, I was a little excited!

Who doesn’t love decorating their own gingerbread house? To us it’s the start of Christmas! It’s supposed to be proudly displayed alongside the Christmas tree but of course it never really lasts that long! I do however find the shop bought ones somewhat disappointing. So imagine my delight when opening up the Biscuiteers DIY gingerbread house kit to be able to smell the gorgeous smell of gingerbread before the lid had even been taken off! And let me start you there!

The kit arrives in the most delightful metal tin! Its beautifully designed, reflecting Biscuiteers gorgeous artwork and is a gift in itself! One which will proudly sit on my kitchen shelf! Actually, it took a lot of will power to not just dive in and dispense with the decorating and just head straight to the eating!

The kit come with everything you need from the house, to the icing and decorations and icing bags. There are more than enough icing bags included too which I loved! The icing needs water adding though to it before you can start the icing and then requires a lot of whisking! 10 minutes on an electronic whisk. It’s about here that ours started to go slightly wrong – the boys don’t have a huge amount of patience and just wanted to get started. They had decided on their design and got started icing. Once iced its best to leave the house parts a good ten minutes for the icing to dry…

The building of the house. This for us is where it went wrong – but its entirely our own fault! The instructions are clear and easy to follow but each part requires you to hold the part togethers for 15 minutes while the icing dries – in totally it takes an hour to build the house after your decorations have dried. An hour for an eager 9yr old was not his plan! As such our house did keep sliding to pieces as due to the rather sumptuous quality the house is slightly heavier than cheaper brands!

However, the boys had an incredibly amount of fun icing and building the house and then almost as much fun sitting down to eat it afterwards! I personally would have loved to get my hands on this kit without the boys and have a stunningly beautiful house sitting in the centre of our table over the Christmas break so much so I have gone and ordered another one just for me! This is perfect for any family of any age – even up to grandparents!

Everything is included in the kit and it provides an afternoons fun away from technology and shops and was just crazy fun with building, designing, decorating! While its slightly more costly than some of the supermarket brands I think it make up for this pretty easily in quality, taste, design and lack of awful rubbish! Both boys, husband and I all gave this a ten out of ten and its become an instant Christmas tradition. Buy your own here!
