Slide Quest

This months Board Game has come from Blue Orange Games. We actually first saw Slide Quest on holiday in France but our translation on the instructions wasn’t great, so we passed it on. However, I wish we had picked it up earlier and battled through the language barrier. Thankfully our version came in English and it takes seconds to set up and start playing!

Slide Quest is basically a maze game for 1-4players who between them control the board using the levers on the edge of the board. The selected level on the game – a variety of different maps/maze styles to try out – is paced across the trap board and the relevant components or barriers are popped on. Players then use their levers to raise their section of the board to encourage the sliding knight along his path and avoiding the barriers and dangers along the way. Players must work together to get the Knight along the path. You have traps to fall in to which loses you a life and the levels have a variety of difficulty and complexity. As you work your way up the maps the hazards increase as do the pits and traps.

The boys enjoy playing it together, but we think it plays it best when we have 4 players though but its such a superb game for bonding as you really do need to discuss what you’re planning on doing to get the knight from A to B. We tried the solo version where you are in control of all 4 levers and we aren’t too sure how it really works this way. It loses something when you don’t have someone to chat to with it. The game has a range of different ways to play which allows you to adjust to concentration levels or timings. It has a great play value as the game changes each time depending in who’s on what lever and if you have friends round to play. I would say for the mini exploration game where you go through 5 maps of your selection this takes between 15-25minutes depending on the skill of the players involved.

We have had some great moments playing this game- some rather tense ones too when certain people don’t listen to the game plan but all in all this is a great game to whisk out at the start of a party or a play date.

Slide Quest RRPS at £19.99 and can be picked up at your local game shop or at Amazon. It comes with everything you need. 20 Maps, 1 Slidey Knight and a selection of obstacles and wooden counters.
