Owleez Review

We were recently at a toy fair and one of the products my 9yr old son (and his rather grown up grandmother) adored was the Owleez! An interactive gorgeously cute little owl which you can teach to fly – very satisfying for someone who has always wanted their own owl ever since reading Harry Potter.

Someone else wants one of their own!

Our fun Owleez is pink – but surprisingly hasn’t put off the boys and they do come in different colours. The interactive owl needs your help. You as the owner need to look after her and using the special guide included read their 100 sounds and movements to see what they need. When she’s ready you can teach her how to fly. Holding her you fly her round the room and when’s she ready to try herself place her gentle back in the nest. The more you practise with her the better she gets at flying – ours had quite a few crash landings for a bit. They do need a decent amount of room to fly around and make sure pets and younger kids are out of the way!

As mentioned, she has a variety of lights and sounds and how you interact with her can change that. If you hold her upside down she gets sick and you need to rub her back gentle for her to feel better. You can tickle her on the tummy too which has her giggling and you can feed her with her berry food accessory. When she’s happy she will sing and dance to herself as well. Her nest is USB chargeable and you can turn her off with a little button at the back while she charges.

The boys loved whisking her around the room trying to teach her to fly and being careful not to tip her otherwise she feels sick and starts to cry! It took a lot of patience to make her fly the first time, but the boys defiantly decided it was worth it. Do make sure though that you charge them fully. Especially if you’re buying for Christmas try and open up and have the owl fully charged before wrapping. The boys really struggled to wait while she charged up.

When she’s ready to fly she makes a noise to announce it and you place her back in the nest. Her head raises up and her wings come up. It did make us chuckle a little but actually its great to watch. The wings come out and get faster and faster and off shes takes. She’s fairly random in her flying hence why the recommend having a 5ft area. As mentioned, if you have little ones or pets do keep them out the way as you can get quite a clonk on the head as she hits you. Once she lands just pick her up – don’t try and put her wings or head as they were, she does it herself!

At £49.99 the Owleez isn’t a cheap toy for Christmas but Smyths currently have it on offer and its guaranteed to be a much requested toy this Christmas and not just with the kids! You can also purchase them at Argos & Amazon. These really are great fun! They are aimed at 6yrs plus but quite frankly they are just so much fun that any age will enjoy them. My mum has tried to teach it to fly and has spent many a visit rocking it and laughing at the noise’s and songs.
