Bathroom Accessibility Design
The bathroom, one of the most important rooms in the house
and one which should be as comfortable for you as possible regardless of age or
disability. It must work the hardest out of all the rooms. Something which my
parents and grandparents are noticing very much now as they change homes. And
thanks to Mobility Plus it’s now
easier than ever before to create a stunning bathroom sanctuary that’s easy and
comfortable for anyone to use!
Walk Ins
Its actually very easy now to future proof your bathroom for
all ages and for it also to be safe, hygienic and of course a relaxing
sanctuary. The most essential main part of the bathroom is of course the bath
or shower. It is essential for people to access a bath or shower safely without
fear or danger of slipping. While a plain shower can to some degree offer this,
a more sensible, stylish and long-lasting approach are the fantastic easy access walk in baths and showers which offer seats and no step overs. I must
admit I tried one of these the other weekend and oh my gosh they are rather fabulous.
I’m half tempted to a deep walk in bath myself! The range on offer is truly
superb with spa facilities and different depths and styles to suit any style.
Grab bars
Without the need to install a whole new toilet these are a
great solution to pop by the side to help lower and pull up. One by the shower
and bath to grab as you come out as well to help prevent extra slip is vital.
Design
Lighting can change your style of bathroom from clean and hygienic
to sensual and soothing. Which ever style you’re after good lighting is again
an essential to highlight water on floors, easily show items and to be able to
see yourself well. Different styles can be created with different lighting from
floor lighting, vanity lighting, spot lights and recessed. Natural light bulbs
as well offer a clarity in sight more so than fluorescent lights on failing eye
sights.
Flooring
Many bathrooms in homes have tiled floors which with the
slightest hint of water resemble an ice rink. While many of us get around this by
mats these of course can be a danger in tripping. In the past couple of years
tile technology has leaped hugely and such things as ceramic tiles to resemble
wood flooring or porcelain are designed to grip even with water on them and to
be slightly more forgiving for falls than the old-fashioned white flooring
tiles.
In fact many accessible bathrooms can be as luxurious, relaxing
and stylish as any designer would wish for. It is much easier to create a
bathroom with longevity than ever before without the need to compromise.
