Fancy giving a Tiger tea...?
One of favourite National Trusts to visit is the glorious
Mottisfont. Any visit is guaranteed to have the kids occupied and demanding to
visit again and soon! Mottisfont is a superb place to visit any day of the week
its open but never more so than when is has an exhibition. Currently is it
celebrating the work of one of our best known children’s authors and
illustrators Judith Kerr OBE.
The exhibition not only celebrates her beautiful illustrations
but gives us an insight into her life, escaping Germany as Hitler rose to
power, being a refugee first in Switzerland then in France, finally settling in
London in 1936 and how these experiences bought about these books and her Out
of the Hitler Time series.
It opened on 7th July – 2nd September and
not only brings her magic in her pictures but also includes a giant cuddly
tiger and an interactive kitchen; why not help the children make their own tea
for the tiger! And while you’re there, why not take advantage of the gorgeous
summer weather and join in the family activity trail inspired by Judith Kerr’s
illustrations.
Mottisfont is the perfect place to explore with the kids or
even on your own – although I find the children a great excuse to let me play
on the amazing playgrounds scattered around the grounds. Ipads on the ground
floor allow those who cant climb stairs to join in the magic and the buggy car
also allows a lift back to the car park for those who cannot walk so far and
would rather use their energy exploring the beautiful grounds than trudging the
sweeping drive. So do head over this
summer and be sure to let me know if you love it as much as us!
