Vodafone Smart Platinum 7

I’ve been an iphone devoting since my first handset a good 8 years or so ago but recently I was asked by Vodafone to review their own handset. The Vodafone Smart Platinum 7 is an android like my tablet so I managed to easily navigate around the apps as soon as the phone arrived.

The review tied in with me starting boot camp and various outdoor get fit new strategies for the year ahead. One of the things which sold the smart platinum 7 to review to me was the sheer amount of free apps I could use with it. I was sent a new sim card to use while I reviewed the phone but since I’m already with Vodafone and I wanted to pop my iphone handset aside completely it was easy just to stick my sim card in. If you have any android device, you’ll know you just head straight to google play and you can download and log in to your hearts content without needing to re-enter details on each device. The first thing I did was to put on the Fitbit app as I had also been sent a Fitbit Charge 2 which you can also buy from Vodafone at £120. Now this has helped me out in my get fit regime completely. Not only does it count calories and my steps but it’s also monitors my sleeping patterns and really does track your whole lifestyle helping to keep you in shape – I really did not realise how little water I drank! It’s an amazing tracker and worked perfectly with the phone and its app to keep me on track.

The phone is larger than my current handset at 5.5” and has a top quality fingerprint scanner for fast unlocking. An incredibly clear camera. Do check out the photos from my husband’s work iphone and the Vodafone Smart Platinum 7. Currently retailing at £295 it has a clearer camera than the iphone retailing at the same price on Amazon or double at Argos for the same internal memory. Plus, an added extra we love is that with smart platinum you can add extra storage by adding an SD card.

So apps and storage aside how did we actually find the phone? Well the handset is thinner and larger than my usual one but I did grab a cheap gel case for the handset and this made it to me far more comfortable to hold but did mean that the fingerprint sensor didn’t work so well. However, I suspect that Vodafone could provide you with the details of a holder which would allow this to work better.

The screen was much clearer than my current one and meant that emails and photos were easier to view and edit without the need to email myself and edit on the computer. The range of apps is of course huge and I personally found they tended to be cheaper or there was a larger range of free ones than on my normal handsets app store.

Pros:

Camera
Storage (love the SD card option)
Fingerprint tech
Range of apps
Cost
Sound (Inc clear!)
Battery charge length (not the full 2 days as stated online but lasted all day with heavy usage)

Cons:

It went to voicemail too quick
Fingerprint tech is at back of phone
Some of the set Vodafone apps are annoying

This handset and tracker were provided for a set period in exchange for a true and impartial review.
