Homework Station Hack #actionstoragecomp

At the start of this month Action Storage gave some bloggers and myself a fabulous creative challenge. Using one of their own lockers could we create a space saving storage hack! They sent us along one of their Action Storage school lockers which can be used not only for school but are also perfect for home, kids bedrooms, playrooms home offices etc and a Hobbycraft locker.

Challenge accepted! We’ve currently been building an office in the garden and the boys have been desperate to have a part of it as a homework station for them too. So this is fabulous timing! Jack chose the top locker and Harry the bottom. Currently Jack’s has the most homework with Harrys being more colouring in and spelling. Jacks spills out all over the house. Books for spelling, English and maths all tend to up in different places with a mad hunt for pens, rulers, pencils every week regardless!

I wanted to show you all just how easy it would be to create a storage hack at home without having to go to a craft store and buy about a million items. The only thing you might need is a glue gun. However locktik super glue works just as well and probably wouldn’t get as messy as me!

Homework Station Hack

1 old picture frame & back – no glass
Fabric
Glue

First of all if you have glass in the frame pop it out and put it some where safe.

Second take the back off the frame.

Cut the material to size. You want about three layers. One as a back and two levels to tuck in books, pens, rulers etc. You’ll probably want the picture to be landscape. Now as I didn’t want to sew this I made sure that the exposed edge of the layers which would hold the pencils in were the ends of the material. They are perfectly sealed and mean you don’t have to sew or seal the edges.

Lay down some newspaper and put down your fabric and back.

Glue the edges and the layers down to the back of the board.

Wait for the glue to dry and pop the board back in the frame.

Slide your pens and pencils in!

Voila a perfect little place to keep all your pens and pencils safe that you can slide in and out of your locker as and when needed!

The boys also wanted to name their lockers and with jack needing to remember something every week we add some of the chalk labels inside with a todo list to remember what to take!

We love our locker and I’m thinking that in a years’ time when we redecorate their room we might have to get a good few more of these!
