Get your kids bike this Christmas!

boy on bikeWe spent a large part of the summer learning to bike ride. Well at least the boys did. We had an amazing time just popping them on the bike and letting them balance downhill. While watching my eldest struggle to pick it up, while the youngest took to it faster made me realise that we should have got them on bikes earlier in their lives.

I’m not too sure there’s anything better than popping on your helmet and riding out somewhere to go off road. While we still can’t go too far the freedom that even a ten minute ride gives the boys is amazing. They aren’t wrapped up in cotton wool and just have the freedom on the bike to be. Sure there’s a chance they might get nettled legs from ride too close to the paths edges but it allows such a direct exposure to nature. An essential for all kids and adults these days.

And as children grow up this becomes even more essential. Teenagers naturally have a lust for risk taking and a bike can fit around this perfectly. Going out on a bike and getting up speed, going down a bumpy hill is a perfect antidote to the thrills and dangers they naturally seek and find on things like video games. They don’t have to be on the streets to get this thrill but can go for a ride through a forest, park or even down at the skate parks where you can do tricks.

Even in the rain!

The payoff for a bike (a one off investment) is health, family fun together and perhaps a new appreciation for the countryside. And if you thought it was only fun on a gentle summer day then I can only suggest you hat up and jump on the next day its rainy or muddy because the thrill, the pumping of adrenaline you get as you speed through a puddle is nothing short of amazing! So perhaps this Christmas perhaps don’t get that computer game but give your children an amazing adventure?

  2. Lovely post! I didn't actually learn to ride a bike until I was about 7! That's because we couldn't afford one. But my little Ethan is already learnt how to ride his bike since March this year on his secondhand bike. I am so impress and I think he is so deserving for a new lighter bike for Christmas as he rides it everyday to school. :) Thank you so much for linking up with me again. #FabFridayPost x
