Protect your new christmas presents!

This Christmas it seems that the number one toy for children from 8 to 18 is a computer, or at least, a laptop or even perhaps a tablet. While there are now many applications, downloads or packages you can buy to protect them going on the wrong pages, what happens when they download a virus by accident virus or drop their new device?

And delete......

I was slightly shocked the other day when I saw an article about a very common downloaded app which carried on running while it was being played and slowly deleted all your files. So what options are there to protect yourself from this or what help if the worse came to worse? Can you get your files back up or are they lost completely? That’s where I think you might have to call in a professional IT Support who can rally round and recover your lost data. Otherwise what are your options other than constant vigilance? Well we have two boys who adore playing games but are always clicking on buttons despite being told not to so we set up the parental controls and ensuring the security options are protecting our data as much as we can (in the settings of nearly every device) We also have an app on our laptops which stops your data such as phone numbers and emails of contacts being sent across. This is also worth popping on your child’s devices as well.

floor at least twice!

So once you’ve protected the inside then you have to protect the outside as much as you can? Obviously the gel protectors around the screens are the best. Despite this though mine landed on a rock recently and the screen cracked. Professional laptop repair was my only option however the protector has stopped other numerous drops (I’m accident prone and my boys tend to sprint round the house a lot – a bad combination) so it’s worth the investment I think. Each child also owns a carry case which ties in the inside of their bigger bags so they don’t get lost & accidentally fall out. Also worth investing in (I say invest they start at 99p) is of course a screen protector. They even work on touch screens and don’t diminish the performance. So now you know how to protect them simply and what to do worse comes to worse I will leave you to enjoy the fun you can have with them!
